June 8, 2010 - FiOS service is now available to 1,400 homes and businesses in Braddock Hills and Whitaker.
May 11, 2010 - FiOS TV and FiOS Internet service are now available to 3,250 customers in Homestead and West Homestead.
February 4, 2010 - Residents in 5,300 Munhall Borough households can now enjoy FiOs TV service.
January 21, 2010 - Verizon delivers additional interactive features for Pittsburgh TV customers, including personalized programming recommendations, ESPN premium programming via remote control, gaming options, full screen progam information and quick guide TV & DVR shortcuts.
December 3, 2009 - Verizon FiOS services are now available in Allentown, North Side and Squirrel Hill. This adds 1,600 households to about 67,000 in 20 City of Pittsburgh neighborhoods that were eligibile for FiOS in September. Thousands more premises will have access to FiOS by the end of the year.
September 22, 2009 - Verizon announces FiOS-eligible Pittsburgh residents and businesses now have access to over 600 channels including 122 in high definition, more HD than Comcast cable. For a short time customers who signup online for FiOS service may be eligible for discounts and $150 cash back.
September 15, 2009 - Pittsburgh City Council unanimously authorized Verizon to provide FiOS Television service to city residents and businesses. FiOS TV will be available throughout the city within 6 years.
August 31, 2009 - Verizon told Pittsburgh City Council that the company is prepared to bring FiOS television to 160,000 households across the city. Under the 10 year franchise agreement, Verizon would make the single largest investment ever by a telecommunications company in Pittsburgh. City residents would enjoy the competitive offerings of Comcast Cable and Verizon FiOS available in much of the surrounding area.
October 14, 2008 - Verizon FiOS TV in Southwestern Pennsylvania has been expanded to include 70 new channels, including 53 in high definition (HD). Verizon now has 800 HD offerings including 100 HD channels and 700 HD on-demand video titles each month.
November 8, 2007 - Verizon FiOS TV is now available to over 60,000 households in parts of the following communities: Bethel Park, Franklin Park, Hampton, Indiana Township, McCandless. Mt. Lebanon, O'Hara, Ohio Township, Peters, Ross, Sewickley, Shaler, Upper St. Clair and West View. FiOS Television will be available in dozens more communities very soon.
October 11, 2007 - Franchise agreements were signed to bring FiOS Television to more than 52,800 residents in Indiana Township, O'Hara, McCandless, Millvale, Reserve, Ross, Shaler, Sharpsburg and West View.
September 26, 2007 - Recent votes by municipal officials have brought residents of Etna, Fox Chapel, Ohio Township and parts of West Deer closer to FiOS TV service in their communities. These new franchise agreements pave the way for 16,700 households to begin FiOS service. Dozens of other municipalities including 11 more represented by the North Hills Council of Governments are expected to finalize agreements soon.
August 30, 2007 - Verizon High Speed Internet is now available to thousands of additional customers across 8 rural PA counties. Newly installed equipment has brought DSL technology to communities like Farmington in Fayette County, Homer City in Indiana County and Punxsutawney in Jefferson County.
August 14, 2007 - Municipal officials in Bethel Park, Mt. Lebanon and Peters Township became the first in Southwestern Pa to approve video franchise agreements. This action paves the way for Verizon to make FiOS TV service available to over 34,000 homes in these communities. Upper St. Clair and the 15 communities represented by the North Hills Council of Governments are reportedly close to approving similar agreements which will stimulate competition by providing all-digital Verizon FiOS as a cable TV alternative.
